Leadership is an honor and a privilege. With that comes responsibility. A responsibility to challenge our boundaries, stretch and grow, and to always be seeking the next level of leadership mastery.
We live in a world that is constantly evolving. We work in an environment that is advancing rapidly. To keep up, we have to be evolving. We are either in growth or decay. There is no middle ground. How will you evolve as a leader in 2014? What new skills sets do you want to fine-tune, refine and sharpen? As the great Ray Kroc, founder of MacDonald’s corporation, said, ” When you’re green you grow. When you’re ripe, you rot.”
The question isn’t “are you good at what you do,” rather “are you good enough to get better?” Do you have the courage to get outside your comfort zone to create new possibilities for yourself and your team? Success typically lies outside our comfort zone, in the place where we are called forward to stretch ourselves. That’s where we harvest the greatest sense of accomplishment and pride.
We have all had experiences in life where we were challenged to step outside of our comfort zone. Where we had to dig deeper and break through constraints to achieve a goal. It is in these moments, these experiences, that we create a new future and expand our success. And, as we do, we take our teams farther, unleash their energy and performance to achieve unprecedented results.
We are capable of things far beyond what we can imagine. When we reach for that extra one degree, it separates us from the rest. It takes us from good to great and great to incomparable. One extra degree in work and in life can make all the difference. What is your one extra degree? What new level of expertise do you want to reach as a leader that will take your team from good to great and great to incomparable?
